Race day this coming Saturday

My first tri of the new season starts Saturday with a Sprint: a 400 meter indoor pool swim, a 12 mile bike and a 3 mile run.

I've had some really great brick workouts this past week and I'm actually starting to look forward to the race; though I am dreading freezing to death on the bike, still partly wet from the swim, in forty-degree temperatures.

It is supposed to be sunny Saturday with a high of 70 and a low of 46. Even though the temperature will be closer to the low than the high at 8:00 in the morning, I think I can suffer through it...well, I'll have to. I have no choice at this point. I'm all paid-up and the challenge is awaiting me.

I'll be sure to do a report on here after the race. Until then, it's all about relaxing instead of fretting these next few days.

Dry off real good and wear a pull over for the bike. You will do great. Exciting stuff, first race of the year...

Good luck!!!! I agree with Bob - bring a lightweight or waterproof jacket for the bike. Better to be safe than sorry!

Yay! I'm so excited about your race!!! That weather forecast is the EXACT same one as my tri 2 weeks ago! :) I would say to have a spare pullover or arm warmers in tranz but you may not even need them. When I ran outside from the swim, I was amazed that I wasn't cold...so I scrapped the pullover & took off. Thankfully it was sunny & turned out to be a beautiful ride! At race pace, your body will quickly heat up. You'll know exactly what to do "in the moment." :) You will do fantastic! Can hardly wait for your RR!!!

You are going to do great!! As far as the temps go, don't worry about that, I'm sure you'll have enough adrenaline flowing to keep you nice and toasty!! Good luck!

You go, girl! I hope the weather is warm for you!!

Hat under your helmet will do wonders to hold the heat in. A thin hat and then you can keep it on for the run if you need to.

Yikes, 40-degrees is VERY cold to me. I would have to wear full-length gloves as I can't stand frozen fingers even when running. Best of luck!!

I'd do what Shirley and Missy said. You don't want to be miserable on that 12 mile bike.

Good Luck!

Hi Lora, just saw your blog. Good luck to you this weekend and HAVE FUN! I grew up in Ohio and took several trips to WV to whitewater raft... it was one of my favorite places, and you're right, people from WV are tough!
Good luck and have a blast out there-

Good luck! And stay warm! Maybe if you have a wick-away type shirt you can throw on for the bike and take off for the run if necessary that might help. Or a jacket. Forty degree weather is no fun on the bike anyway, but being wet is downright cruel!
