I wasn't a swimmer. I wasn't a biker. I wasn't a runner. It is, therefore, quite unusual that I have become a triathlete.
2008 was my inaugural season, a season to test the waters and acquaint myself with the sport. In 2009, I wanted to move up the rankings - even just a small bit - and I did.
In 2010, I wanted to move up more again - even just that very small bit would have been terrific. Because of a heavy work schedule (I am passionate about my job), I competed in two triathlons, swam and biked very little but ran quite a bit. Though I added quite a bit of distance to my runs, my pace actually slowed.
I did finish my first half marathon which has become a shining accomplishment for me. Running 13.1 miles when I could barely run a quarter mile starting off is astounding.
2011 ended up being the Year of Injuries. I did manage to squeeze another my second half marathon in May, finished two 5Ks and had my best time ever during a Sprint triathlon.
I have renewed sense of vigor as I look toward 2012, primarily stemming from my clothes getting tighter and needing to do something about it. Today is the first day of the rest of my life!
I have absolutely come to love this sport. I love talking about it, writing about it and encouraging others in it.
Today, I am a swimmer. I am a biker. I am a runner. I am ... a triathlete. And I will always, always be this cheesy.
WHY THE NAME?
Though I currently live in Ohio, and am a proud Buckeye, I'll always be a West Virginia girl, a Mountaineer. So, because I compete in triathlons and am from West Virginia...
